The LORD brought me forth as the first of His works, before his deeds of old. I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began ...
… I was the craftsman at His side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. (v22 &30)
Part of blogging through proverbs is to get to know Ms Wisdom better; to listen to her instruction & gain wisdom (v33), to watch daily at her doors & wait at her doorway (v34).
I find it striking that wisdom is personified as a woman created before the dawn of time. Ms Wisdom is pictured as being brought forth (ESV uses possessed or fathered or created) as the first of God’s creative works.
But Ms Wisdom is not to be confused with the pre-incarnate Jesus who was not created:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. John 1v1-2
He is the image of the invisible God, the first born over all creation. For by him all things were created ... all things were created by him and through him. He is before all things and in him all things hold together. Col 1v15-17
I do want to gain wisdom and so eagerly listen to Ms Wisdom … but she can never compare with the pre-eminence of Jesus. He towers above all things in life; he is Mr ‘Eternal, uncreated, wisdom personified’.
