Proverbs 7

All at once he followed her (the adulteress)... little knowing it would cost him his life (v22-23).

The young man caves in to her persuasive words and smooth talk. Her seduction of him is almost complete.

Whilst on summer holidays, my son and I like to dam the streams that run across a beach. We have great fun trying to hold the water back, especially when a weak spot suddenly caves in and spills all the water. The breach happens so quickly and dramatically!

Yielding to sin can be like this; our resolve weakens then suddenly & catastrophically, it caves in. We were yielding only a few drops, but then suddenly litres are cascading through us.

Yielding to sin is not linear - we often move from resisting to assisting in a blink of an eye. Trying to endure because 'we can handle it', is very unwise. How much better to stay well away.

As the old saying goes 'Better safe than very sorry'.
