Proverbs 19

Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge (27).

I don't think I am pushing this verse too hard to say it underscores the value of being exposed to expository preaching.

What I mean by expository preaching is preaching that is shaped by a bible text ... the sermon comes from the text and the text determines the content of the sermon.

Listening to this type of preaching keeps you as close as possible to God's words of knowledge. Terry Virgo, John Piper, Mark Driscoll, CJ Mahaney are but a few of my favourite expository preachers. When I listen to their instruction I know I am keeping close to God's word.
