The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD (v33).
There really is no such thing as random or chance events, God is the unseen hand behind all things. His ongoing relationship and interaction with creation is often called ‘God’s Providence’.
Wayne Grudem states that ‘God is continually involved with all created things in such a way that #1 keeps them existing and maintaining the properties with which he created them; #2 cooperates with created things in every action, directing their distinctive properties to cause them to act as they do; and #3 directs them to fulfil his purposes’ (Systematic Theology p315).
There really is no such thing as impersonal fate or luck, our world is governed by a personal God. Nothing just happens, but God causes all things to work together for good for those who love Him.
This should help us frame our ‘bad day' by trusting in His providence, even when everything seems to be going wrong!
